Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the nation’s preeminent youth-service organization for over a century. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina has positively impacted the lives of youth in the community since 1968. The service is based on volunteers, and has proven success in creating and nurturing positive relationships that benefit everyone involved, including the volunteer, the child, families, and the community.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Founded by Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care. Today, Compassion helps more than 900,000 children in 24 countries.

 

Cross-Lines was built on a simple idea - that poverty borne problems could be answered best by looking to the community for solutions and working together to tackle them. Cross-Lines provides an environment that instills both hope and belief in the individual’s potential for positive change. Their focus is to help the less fortunate and enable them to break their cycle of poverty. Their five focus areas include; a Self-Sufficiency Program, Hunger Relief, Emergency Assistance, Thrift Store, and Special Programs.

Hospice is a special kind of care for terminally ill people and their families. Hospice care is for people that will no longer benefit from aggressive treatment aimed at cure or life extension. The Hospice Center provides for all Hospice operations in one location and includes: office space for home care staff and administration; public education and support group facilities; counseling rooms; a library and learning center; small equipment loan closet; and a home-like setting for inpatient care. It is a place of comfort, peace, hope and security for patients and their families.

 

K-State at Salina is home to the College of Technology and Aviation. They offer associate and bachelors degrees in the fields of engineering technology, aviation and technology management. The academic programs are designed to prepare people directly for the world of work and are very application oriented and laboratory intensive. Students learn by doing. The college regularly places more than 95 percent of its graduates and each year several employers actively recruit on campus.

 

KSU Foundation
The KSU Foundation was established in 1944 as the official fundraising arm of Kansas State University. It is a separate, independent organization that is chartered by the state of Kansas as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation. Foundation staff members, working in close partnership with university administrators, deans and faculty, raise money to support identified priorities for the university. Because most K-State alumni are likely to maintain a personal interest in their college, our fundraising program is organized according to the nine academic colleges, with some staff dedicated to programs that interface with all colleges.

Mike Ahearn Scholarship
Founded in 1964, the Fund’s primary objective is raising money from the private sector for athletic scholarships and capital improvements. Founded in 1863, Kansas State is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas. With a university steeped in tradition, Wildcat athletics boasts a proud heritage and spirit in its program. With over a century of athletics history, K-State has enjoyed one of the most successful athletic histories in the country. Each year, through the support of donors, they are able to provide financial aid to over 450 male and female student-athletes.

The Saint Francis Academy is a donor-supported child welfare ministry embracing the Episcopal tradition of service. Saint Francis Academy is a leader among child welfare agencies providing a continuum of care that addresses the overall needs of the children and families. The mission of Saint Francis remains relatively unchanged since 1945: to be an instrument of healing for children, youths and families in spirit, mind and body, so they live responsibly and productively with purpose and hope.

Salina Charities League
Over the past 36 years, Salina Charities League has raised over $799,000 for 69 different charities, all in Salina or Saline County.

 

Special Olympics Kansas is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports competitions, health and nutrition programs and leadership development. Offering year-round initiatives to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics Kansas is a platform for acceptance and inclusion as well as one of the largest advocates for healthy lifestyles in the state – regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or cultural differences.

 

St. John's Military School is a private boarding military school for 220 male students from grades 7 to 12. The faculty and staff at SJMS are dedicated to helping a student develop his leadership and academic skills in a structured environment. Their mission is to provide each Cadet with the opportunity to grow spiritually, morally, intellectually, and physically in a structured environment. Their specialty is developing that hidden potential that we believe lies in every boy.

 

The Salina Area United Way improves lives and strengthens the community through leadership, partnership, and investment. Salina Area United Way's work is about building a stronger, healthier, more caring community. United Way works by prioritizing needs, investing resources, raising funds and providing community service. United Way is both a fund-raiser and a community builder. United Way fosters partnerships among business, government, education, healthcare and human service agencies to strengthen the community.

Water For People helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs. Their vision is a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation; a world where no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease.
